Built for Martin Herzog
This very small combo was built for Martin to approximate the sound of the early Jazz electric guitarists. The designs used in these first guitar amplifiers are simple, often having only a volume control. We decided to add a bit more tonal control with a single tilt eq– a high and low pass filter on one knob.
Otherwise, the most remarkable bit of the design is the interstage transformer. This lends a completely different sound to the cathode biased metal 6L6 output tubes. The overdrive is very raw and bluesy making for a classic tone that can be heard on many early jazz and blues records.
