The Stereo Piano Recording Preamplifier

Built for Ed Carlsen

Unfortunately, during a recent move, the previous preamplifiers built for Ed were lost so he commissioned a new pair.  This is similar in many ways to the previous design but still quieter and even cleaner than before.  At the same time, dynamics and frequency range has also improved making this an excellent performer for classical recording.

The case is from a vintage rack-mount unit that suited the application very well as it is separated into sections allowing the power supply components to be situated away from the tubes and both from the sensitive transformers and preamplifier circuitry.
